About us This organization intends to bring together Romanians living in Madison, while trying to conserve the rich culture, language, tradition and lively Romanian spirit. UW students, undergraduates and graduates, their families, or anyone with an interest in Romanian culture, are welcome to join us. Social events include outdoor trips, conversation dinners, dances, concerts, lectures, festivals, etc. No membership fees. 2008 EVENTS SAMPLER IN MADISON & UW CAMPUS ROMANIANS IN MADISON MARCH 7-9, at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art: the second edition of the Romanian Film Festival in Madison. The programming ranges from the first-ever Romanian winner of the Palme d'Or, the 1956 "Short History" by Ion Popescu Gopo, to widely acclaimed 2007 productions such as "California Dreamin'" by Cristian Nemescu and "The Rest is Silence" by Nae Caranfil. The Romanian Film Festival is organized by ICR Bucharest and CREECA of UW-Madison. All films have English subtitles and the admission is free. APRIL 4, 9:15PM, at the UW Cinematheque, the 2008 Wisconsin Film Festival presents "California Dreamin' ", by Cristian Nemescu. Visit the festival website for information on ticket purchases. APRIL 13, 12:30PM, Chazen Museum of Art, Eli Kalman, piano, and the Infusion Chamber Ensemble, present music by Torke (After the Forest Fire), Harbison (Twilight Music), Daugherty (Diamond in a Rough) and Ewazen (Ballade, Pastorale and Dance). The concert is a live broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio, in the 'Sunday Afternoon from Chazen' series. APRIL 15, 7-9PM UW International Festival. Great Hall Memorial Union. Deadline for signing up to put together a Romanian booth at this event is April 5th. The event aims to have the guests experience different cultures by interacting with student organization members and participating in activities. There will be FREE deserts/food from different countries. Activity booths such as caligraphy, origami (put up by WISA), people wearing traditional clothing, performances on the stage. Romanian student volunteers are needed to stand by a Romanian booth! Please contact us if willing to participate. APRIL, the Orpheum Theatre presents "4 months, 3 Weeeks, 2 Days" by Cristian Mungiu, a film awarded the Palme d'Or top award at Cannes in 2007. Tickets may be purchased at the theatre box office.
